Now, that fellow—Johanna Hagarty—is bringing that national-level opportunity home.

On June 8, Hagarty will host The Biz Hero Solutions Lab at The Restoration Rooftop in Asheville: a hands-on experience designed to help Western North Carolina entrepreneurs, nonprofit leaders, and purpose-driven organizations solve real challenges—and potentially access more than $20,000 in pro bono strategic support.

“This isn’t about another event,” Hagarty said. “It’s about creating a space where people doing meaningful work can actually get unstuck—and then continue receiving support beyond the room.”

Participants who fully engage in the Solutions Lab will be eligible for pro bono services from a network of subject matter experts, including Biz Hero’s Jumpstart Program, which invests $10,000–$20,000 in strategic development support into one selected Western North Carolina organization ready for its next phase.

The Solutions Lab is powered by a coalition of Western North Carolina-based organizations and subject matter experts contributing time, expertise, and in some cases additional pro bono services to support participating teams. This collaborative model reflects a shared commitment to strengthening the region’s business and nonprofit ecosystem.

Event ticket donations will directly support Community Health and Wellness Collective Services, Biz Hero’s current pro bono client, as they continue expanding their impact in the region.

The Solutions Lab is part of Hagarty’s fellowship work through the Watson Institute, a nationally recognized program focused on supporting leaders building solutions to complex social and economic challenges.

Unlike traditional networking events, the Solutions Lab is structured for action. Attendees will bring a real challenge—such as growth, funding, leadership, or operations—and work through it in real time through guided exercises, peer learning labs, and expert-led sessions.

The event will also feature a keynote from Hagarty on purpose-driven leadership, along with an expert panel responding directly to themes emerging from participant challenges.
