Mar 13, 2026 09:40AM ● By WNC BusinessAmy started her career with Mountain as a Member Service Representative in a new branch in Fletcher in 1985. She worked her way up through the ranks. She has said over the years that the experience of working through the branch positions of teller, lending, and branch management provides the best training ground for future leadership as these positions are member facing, and the most important positions in the Credit Union. She left Mountain and was the Manager of McDowell Cornerstone Credit Union for approximately 6 years, where she wore the many hats of a small credit union manager and gained back-office knowledge.
Amy came back to Mountain in 2003 as the Executive Vice President, and was responsible for Branch Operations, Lending, Collections, Compliance, ATM’s and Human Resources. As Mountain grew and more positions could be added, she hired the first Collector and promoted an internal staff member to be responsible for Compliance, and another for Mortgage loans and eventually Lending.
Amy became the CEO in 2020 after the retirement of longtime CEO Patty Idol. During Amy’s tenure as CEO, she developed a close-knit communicative Executive Team and an Asset Liability Committee which meets weekly. During this time Mountain has made great strides in added digital services, IT security, lending products and state of the art financial equipment all while increasing and maintaining strong net worth and liquidity. Additional Administrative positions have been added as well, improving and adding member services. Amy gives all the credit for Mountain’s financial strength and success to the staff and dedicated Board of Directors, as they are the individuals improving the financial positions of the members.
