AdventHealth Hospice Applies to Bring Home-Based Services to Haywood County

Families in Haywood County deserve compassionate, whole‐person hospice care that supports physical, emotional and spiritual needs. AdventHealth will respond to this calling with a Certificate of Need (CON) application to bring AdventHealth Hospice home-based services to Haywood County.

“If approved, AdventHealth Hospice will provide comfort‐focused, end‐of‐life care wherever patients call home,” said Mark Wheeler, CFO of AdventHealth Home Services. “Our goal is to ensure dignity, compassion and meaningful support when patients and families need it most. This program reflects our mission of Extending the Healing Ministry of Christ by caring for the whole person – body, mind and spirit.”

AdventHealth has been caring for Western North Carolina since 1910, building a strong legacy of compassion, reliability and community partnership. That commitment has included more than a decade of providing cancer care to patients in Haywood County and surrounding communities, along with the more recent addition of orthopedic services through AdventHealth | Southeastern Orthopedics and Spine at Haywood*.

“Following Hurricane Helene, our AdventHealth Home Health team in Fletcher, N.C., resumed patient contact the day of the storm and began in‐home visits the very next day, not because conditions were easy, but because their commitment to our mission and this community is unwavering,” said Krystin Littleton, executive director of AdventHealth Home Health. “Within the first full week, the team reached all 235 patients despite road closures, power outages and widespread devastation.”

Building on that trusted presence, AdventHealth is expanding its home health services into Haywood County and seeking to further strengthen continuity of care by bringing its hospice services to local families. The proposed program would increase access to care, provide more hospice options and offer families greater choice in selecting services that align with their loved one’s needs.

AdventHealth will host a community listening session on Tuesday, Feb. 3, from 4:30 to 6 pm at the AdventHealth Medical Group Radiation Oncology at Clyde Open House, located at 49 Spicewood Drive, Clyde, N.C. 28721. Members of the AdventHealth Hospice team will be onsite to share the organization’s vision for expanding home‐based hospice services in Western North Carolina and to hear directly from community members about their needs, experiences and priorities.
