Mountain Aging Partners has appointed Andrew Schmidt as its new Development & Communications Director, strengthening the organization’s ability to advance essential services that help older adults in Western North Carolina remain healthy, independent, and socially connected as they age.

Schmidt brings more than a decade of experience in nonprofit advancement, fundraising strategy, and donor engagement. He has held leadership roles in higher education and healthcare, most recently serving as Program Officer in the Foundation office at UNC Health Pardee. Previously, Schmidt worked as Advancement Analyst at Kanuga Conferences in Hendersonville, supporting development operations and a successful $15 million capital campaign.

He began his career at Sewanee: The University of the South, leading reunion giving and alumni engagement initiatives. At Mountain Aging Partners, Schmidt oversees fundraising, donor stewardship, and strategic communications, with a focus on sustaining programs such as Meals on Wheels, Community Dining, Caregiver Support, and Adult Day services.

“Mountain Aging Partners plays a vital role in ensuring the dignity and well-being of older adults in our community,” Schmidt said. “I’m honored to support MAP’s mission and to help build the philanthropic partnerships that make these services possible.”

Schmidt holds a BA in Philosophy from Sewanee and a master’s in Applied Arts & Sciences from the UNC Greensboro, with academic concentrations in gerontology, ethical leadership, and systems thinking.
