Jan 05, 2026 09:19AM ● By WNC Business
Did you know that in 2025, Western North Carolina experienced a net loss of 15 child care programs? The loss of these programs reduced licensed capacity in the region by 430 slots.

In the Land of Sky region alone, more than 20,000 workers experience workplace disruptions related to child care issues. An upcoming summit will explore the economic impact of the child care crisis and how business leaders can drive solutions.

The ExCEL NC Land of Sky Child Care Economic Summit is set for 8:30-10:30 a.m. on Jan. 16 at the Hilton in Biltmore Park.

The event is hosted by by Land of Sky Regional Council and ExCEL NC. ExCEL NC, or Executives Championing Early Learning in North Carolina, is a coalition of business owners, entrepreneurs, corporate leaders, and business ecosystem champions who are advocating for solutions that stabilize the state’s child care options, strengthen our workforce, and create a more prosperous economy.
