Nick Scroggs, the co-owner of Scroggs Construction
Services, was recently honored with Pro Builder’s Young Guns & Legends Award, which is a national recognition celebrating innovators shaping the future of residential construction.
1. Scroggs mobilized his team for disaster recovery: In
the wake of Hurricane Helene, Nick transformed the company office in
Asheville into a logistics center for collecting and delivering supplies
to hard-hit communities. At the same time, he launched a restoration
division, hiring more than a dozen employees and taking on over 40
hurricane-related rebuilds. Thanks to Nick’s leadership, families were
able to return to safe, livable homes and avoid prolonged displacement. “When
the storm tore through Western North Carolina last fall, Nick didn’t
hesitate,” says Jack Sorrentino, Scroggs’ Vice President of Sales and
Marketing. “He quickly turned our office into a supply hub, loading up
trucks with bottled water, tarps, diapers, and anything else people
needed.”
The 35-year-old, who is the 2025 president of the Builders Association of the Blue
Ridge Mountains (BABRM), has become a standout figure in Western North
Carolina’s residential construction industry.
Pro Builder is, according to its website, "the leading provider of
reliable, timely, and accurate content for the U.S. housing industry,
and is the official publication of the National Association of Home
Builders (NAHB)."
Nick and his father, Matt, were featured in a recent Family Business Article. Check it out here: https://www.wncbusiness.com/2025/10/22/550866/family-business-feature-scroggs-construction-services-...
According to the Scroggs Construction website, here are five reasons that he was selected for this award:
2. Scroggs led an award-winning, industry-wide recovery effort: As
this year’s president of BABRM, Scroggs helped organize a far-reaching
disaster response that earned several Association Excellence Awards from
the National Association of Home Builders. He played a key role as the Association formed a regional Disaster
Recovery Task Force and hosted multi-county housing forums to connect
residents with FEMA, licensed builders, and permitting officials. He
also helped launch a consumer protection campaign to combat contractor
fraud. These efforts have now been recognized as national best
practices. “For Nick, recovery was about helping his neighbors,
his friends, and his hometown,” says Jack. “It was about doing the right
thing for people who had lost everything.”
3. Scroggs is a champion for workforce development and affordable housing: Scroggs knows that addressing the skilled labor shortage and housing
affordability crisis requires more than talk—it takes sustained,
strategic action. That’s why he uses his platform at BABRM to advocate
for vocational training and support policy solutions that increase
affordable housing stock. For Scroggs, a strong construction industry is
one that lifts up entire communities, especially in high-need,
high-potential regions like Western North Carolina.
4. Scroggs' company is raising the bar for modern design-build firms: Scroggs Construction Services uses a fully integrated design-build model, combining planning, design, and construction under one roof to deliver
faster timelines with fewer surprises. This efficiency, along with
personalized client care, has earned the company the trust of homeowners
like Elizabeth Smith, for whom Scroggs built an aging-friendly home in
Old Fort, North Carolina. “We are delighted with the craftsmanship
in our new home,” says Elizabeth. “There were no shortcuts taken to get
the job done quicker or cheaper at the expense of quality.”
5. Scroggs is building on a family legacy while forging his own: Growing
up, Nick spent summers on job sites, helping his dad, Matt, with small
remodeling projects. While he initially set out to pursue a finance
career in Chicago, he eventually returned home with a fresh perspective
and real-world business experience. Since Nick and Matt co-founded
Scroggs Construction Services, the company has grown into a 26-person
team with consistent 30% year-over-year growth. “Nick will carry my legacy on while building his own extraordinary legacy,” Matt says. “I’m sure of that.”
Scrogg's leadership is a reflection of our company’s mission: to build well,
serve our neighbors, and strengthen the communities we call home.
