Jackson’s General Store in Sylva Announces Closure

Nov 24, 2025 05:05PM ● By WNC Business
Jackson’s General Store, a longtime retail staple in Sylva recently announced it would close.
The store, which boasts a large selection of men's and women's clothing, gifts, candy, toys and collectibles, is located at 456 West Main Street in Sylva.
Owners Crystal Cogdill and Donna Sherril posted the news on Facebook.
“This announcement comes with so many mixed emotions, and much sooner than we ever anticipated. Recently, the property owners of the building where we are located decided not to honor their commitment to us and instead are attempting to sell the property at an inflated price,” the post said. “Therefore, after 26 wonderful years of operating our family business here in our hometown, we have made the difficult decision to bring this chapter of our lives to a close.”
The store, which opened in the fall of 1999, also sells home and garden items and makes gift baskets. Brands such as Yeti, Brighton, Poppy Popcorn, Finch and Fennel, Tribal, Habitat, Huk, and Carhartt could be purchased there.
“It’s been an honor and a privilege to be a part of your lives. We are humbled and grateful for the trust you have placed in us and for the joy you have brought into our lives,” the post continued. “As we step into this new season, we do so with full hearts and with faith in God’s plans for what the future holds.”
The note added that the store will continue to operate as usual through the remainder of the year and was signed “with much love and gratitude, Crystal and Denna.”
