Letter from the Editor: Women in Business 2025

This issue’s cover reflects that strength and spirit through five remarkable women: Lucy Clark, Brandy Mills, Cheryl Stuller, Kelly McCoy, and Claire Counts. Each of them brings a different perspective to leadership, but together they represent the depth and diversity of talent that Western North Carolina is fortunate to claim.
Clark has built her reputation not only as a gallerist and advocate for the arts. Mills’ career is a testament to how women can lead with both strength and empathy, cultivating workplaces where people thrive. Stuller is a model of how women in business can continually evolve and inspire others to follow suit. McCoy, known for her work connecting people with the outdoors and with one another, demonstrates how business can be both profitable and purposeful. Counts brings a collaborative, forward-thinking approach to the industry of design and construction, a sector often dominated by men.
This issue is also packed with resources for women in all parts of our region, and in all industries, from networking groups to social opportunities. We also take a look at our Nonprofit, Retirement, and Local Retail industries, and how these sectors are recovering from the damage wrought by Hurricane Helene.
As you read this issue, I hope you are as inspired as I am by the stories within these pages. They remind us that progress is possible because of individuals who step forward, take the lead, and refuse to accept limitations. Our region is stronger, more vibrant, and more resilient because of the women who are willing to blaze new trails—and because of the communities that support them.
Thank you for joining us in celebrating them.
