NC TECH shares annual report
Jan 22, 2024 11:09AM ● By WNC BusinessThe NC Technology Association (NC TECH) has released its monthly snapshot of available IT positions in the state, broken down in several ways (top listings by MSA, job type, skills, certifications).
This monthly Tech Talent Trends Alert is released in the latter half of each month with a snapshot of the previous month as well as a rolling thirteen-month chart of IT job openings in NC so that trends can be seen.
“Commenting on the monthly IT Job Postings during 2023 has been challenging. Not only were monthly comparisons being made to record-breaking months of 2022, but continued headlines of layoffs, hiring freezes, and economic uncertainty continued a downward trajectory for postings for 2023,” stated Andrea Fleming, Director of Talent + Workforce Development for NC TECH. “The year concluded with a decrease of 44% in postings compared to January 2023.”
Balancing the news in tech job postings is a more positive picture for employment overall. According to the latest US Bureau of Labor Statistics report, two metropolitan areas in North Carolina stood out, ranking in the top 10 for year-over-year job growth. Durham-Chapel Hill secured the third position with a 4% increase, while Raleigh-Cary followed closely at number seven with a 3.8% rise in job opportunities. Encouragingly, optimism also surfaced in the recent NC TECH Pulse leadership survey among member companies, revealing that 62% of them have intentions to recruit and hire new talent during the first quarter of 2024.
