Laura Bruegger, the current Assistant Principal and Athletic Director at Hendersonville High School, will lead the Bearcats. Bruegger fills the principalship vacated by Bobby Wilkins, who is retiring after 44 years with HCPS. Wilkins has served as the Principal at HHS for the last 22 years.
“HHS is very fortunate that Laura Bruegger has been named the new principal. She knows the school and all of the great things that have made it such a classic high school for the past 122 years,” said Bobby Wilkins. “ HHS will continue to thrive under her leadership. Congratulations to her and the school community.”
Bruegger has been a part of HCPS since 1999 when she began working as a special education teacher at West Henderson High School. During her tenure, she served as the Department Head for Exceptional Children at West Henderson from 2009 to 2019. In 2019, Bruegger joined the Bearcats as the Assistant Principal and Athletic Director, where she has served since.
“We are thrilled to have Laura Bruegger stepping into the role as principal at Hendersonville High School,” said Superintendent Mark R. Garrett. “Her focus on students, knowledge of the community, and passion for education make her the perfect choice to lead the school. Great things are ahead for the Bearcats.”
Bruegger is equally excited about her new role. “I am incredibly honored to build upon Hendersonville High School's legacy,” she said, expressing her gratitude for the opportunity to contribute to the school's impressive history. "I look forward to continuing working alongside our students, staff, and Bearcat community for many years to come."
Bruegger earned her undergraduate degree at Minnesota State University Mankato, Master of Education at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, and Principal Licensure at Western Carolina University.
