Haywood Chamber of Commerce recognized outstanding businesses

At the 2023 Annual Dinner in May, Haywood Chamber of Commerce recognized several of the area's outstanding businesses and entrepreneurs.

Awards and recipients included:

Business of the Year: Harrah's Cherokee Casino, Sponsored by Mercy Urgent Care

As one of the largest employers in Western North Carolina, 4,000 of Harrah's employees live in Haywood County. For 25 years, Harrah's has made a long-lasting economic impact on our community; recent impact numbers included $419 million in salaries/wages & $7.5 million to a private non-profit fund to support regional programs.

Small Business of the Year: JM Teague Engineering, sponsored by HCC Small Business Center

M Teague was awarded Small Business of the Year for their continued emphasis on community involvement and strong employee business practices. JMTE are experts at achieving traffic solutions for unique issues in our mountain region. With JMTE's assistance, we can plan our Annual Apple Harvest Festival with 100+ vendors placed along Main St.!

Woman of the Year: Shelley White

Haywood Community College President, Shelley White, was awarded Woman of the Year for her pivotal leadership role in navigating the Pactiv Evergreen mill closure.

Entrepreneur of the Year: BearWaters Brewery

Emerging Female Leader of the Year: Emily McCurry - Edward Jones Financial Group

Leader of the Year: Jake Robinson - Champion Credit Union
