Mountain Aging Partners Celebrates One Year Anniversary

Jul 08, 2026 01:03PM ● By WNC Business
Mountain Aging Partners (MAP), a local non-profit organization is proudly celebrating its first anniversary following the 2025 merger of two of Western North Carolina's most respected aging organizations. While Mountain Aging Partners is just one year old, the organizations that came together to create MAP have spent nearly 100 years serving older adults, caregivers, and families throughout our region.

The anniversary theme, "One Year Together—A Century of Caring," reflects both a successful first year as one unified organization and a shared legacy of compassion, innovation, and community service that spans generations.

The merger combined the strengths of Council on Aging of Henderson County and MountainCare Adult Day Services, creating a single organization dedicated to helping older adults age with dignity, independence, and connection. Today, Mountain Aging Partners serves older adults and caregivers across Henderson and Buncombe counties through a wide range of programs designed to meet people wherever they are in their aging journey.

"Over the past year, we've strengthened services, expanded our reach, and created even more opportunities for older adults and caregivers to find the support they need," said Elizabeth Williams, Executive Director of Mountain Aging Partners. "This anniversary is about celebrating not only where we've been, but where we're going together as a community."

Mountain Aging Partners offers comprehensive services that help older adults remain healthy, connected, and independent, including:

  • Adult Day Services that provide engaging activities, health monitoring, nutritious meals, socialization, and respite for caregivers in safe, welcoming environments.
  • Meals on Wheels, delivering nutritious meals and friendly visits to homebound older adults.
  • Community Dining, bringing older adults together for healthy meals and meaningful social connection.
  • Caregiver Support, including education, support groups, consultations, and resources for families caring for aging loved ones.
  • Resource Navigation and the MAP Helpline, connecting individuals and families with trusted information, local services, benefits, housing resources, transportation options, Medicare counseling, and much more.
  • Volunteer opportunities, advocacy, wellness programs, and community education.

As the need for aging services continues to grow across Western North Carolina, Mountain Aging Partners encourages anyone with questions about aging, caregiving, or available community resources to start with one simple phone call.

The MAP Helpline is staffed by knowledgeable professionals who help older adults, caregivers, and families navigate complex decisions and connect them with local services—often at no cost. Whether someone is looking for transportation, food assistance, caregiver support, Medicare guidance, housing resources, or simply isn't sure where to begin, the Helpline serves as a trusted first step.

For families caring for a loved one with memory loss or other age-related challenges, MAP's Adult Day Services provide compassionate daytime care that promotes independence while giving caregivers valuable time to work, rest, or attend to personal responsibilities. Participants enjoy meaningful activities, exercise, meals, social engagement, and individualized support in a safe, welcoming environment.

As Mountain Aging Partners begins its second year, the organization remains committed to ensuring that every older adult has access to the support, resources, and connections they need to thrive.

"Our name may be new, but our commitment to this community has been generations in the making," Williams said. "Together, we're building an even stronger future for older adults and caregivers throughout Western North Carolina."
