The Western Piedmont Council of Governments (WPCOG) has completed its 11,500‑square‑foot building expansion, a major investment that strengthens the organization’s ability to serve the region and its local government partners.
The new addition includes two modern meeting spaces and 28 new offices, significantly increasing WPCOG’s capacity to support regional collaboration, service delivery, and program growth. Constructed by Neill Construction, the project reflects a long‑term commitment to providing high‑quality, accessible space for staff, member governments, and community partners.
This expansion was made possible through state appropriations from the North Carolina General Assembly, allowing WPCOG to complete the project with zero debt. The organization extends its sincere appreciation to Representative Jay Adams and former Senator Dean Proctor for their leadership and support in securing this critical funding.
“This new addition provides the space needed to continue the WPCOG’s mission of serving local governments and partners across the Western Piedmont region,” said Chair Randy Burns. “We are grateful for the state’s investment in our work and for the continued trust placed in us by our member communities.”
"I want to thank the WPCOG Policy Board Delegates for their leadership and support to make this happen. Over the years, our exceptional staff have expanded services, built partnerships, taken on new responsibilities, and found new ways to serve the communities of our region. This building is a physical reminder of that growth and the trust our communities and counties have placed in us,” said Executive Director Anthony Starr.
The expanded facility positions WPCOG to meet growing regional needs and to continue delivering high‑impact programs that strengthen the economic vitality and quality of life across Alexander, Burke, Caldwell, and Catawba counties.
