Brother Wolf Animal Rescue Receives $1 Million ASPCA Grant Toward Rebuilding Adoption Center

The ASPCA® (The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals®) awarded a $1 million grant to support the rebuilding of Brother Wolf’s Adoption Center.

After flooding from Hurricane Helene destroyed Brother Wolf's shelter, the ASPCA lent a critical helping hand by opening its doors to Brother Wolf, providing the organization with temporary space at the ASPCA Spay/Neuter Alliance. Thanks to that space, more than 900 Brother Wolf animals were adopted into loving homes in 2025, and hundreds more were supported with much-needed medical care.

The ASPCA is the oldest, and one of the largest, animal welfare organizations in the country, and its continued investment in Brother Wolf speaks to the strength of this community, the urgency of the work, and the ASPCA’s belief in the importance of what Brother Wolf is building to impact animals in Western North Carolina.

“Brother Wolf Animal Rescue’s commitment to providing veterinary, sheltering and adoption services in the wake of Hurricane Helene has been extraordinary,” said Matt Bershadker, president and CEO of the ASPCA. “The ASPCA has a history of serving animals in Western North Carolina, and we are grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our local partners to address animal welfare challenges, expand access to care, and help improve outcomes for vulnerable cats and dogs across the region.”

The Brother Wolf Adoption Center will allow the organization to increase adoptions, support overcrowded shelter partners, and create more lifesaving opportunities for animals across the region.
