Partner Community Capital recently hosted its 14th Annual Western North Carolina Business Showcase, bringing together community leaders, funding partners, economic development professionals, and entrepreneurs for a multi-day event focused on rural investment and small business success across the region.

Held May 13-15, the showcase highlighted businesses and redevelopment projects supported through PCAP financing and technical assistance programs while giving attendees an opportunity to hear directly from business owners about the challenges and opportunities shaping Western North Carolina’s economy.

“The Western North Carolina Business Showcase is one of the most powerful ways we demonstrate the impact of community development financing,” said Erika McGilley, Chief Lending Officer for PCAP. “These businesses are creating jobs, revitalizing communities, preserving important spaces, and building long-term economic opportunity throughout the region.”

The showcase began with an opening reception hosted at Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn featuring remarks from McGilley and presentations from local business owners, including representatives from The Hobb, LK Preservation, LLC, and Poppy Hand-Crafted Popcorn.

Over the course of the event, attendees toured and visited businesses throughout the region, including Five Star Inn, Balsam Falls Brewing, Waynesville Soda Jerks, The Lazy Tiger Hostel, and Wunderland Resort.

“These site visits allow participants to experience firsthand how flexible financing and strategic partnerships can help businesses grow and communities thrive,” McGilley said. “The stories shared during this showcase reinforce why investing in rural communities matters.”

Since its founding, PCAP has invested millions of dollars into businesses and redevelopment projects across Western North Carolina and the Appalachian region through lending programs, technical assistance, and targeted economic development initiatives.

“This event is also about relationships,” McGilley added. “It creates opportunities for collaboration between entrepreneurs, lenders, community leaders, and partners who all share a common goal of building stronger local economies.”
