Deanne Smith plans to continue building and sustaining community as UNC Health Appalachian’s new Outreach Specialist. With sincere care for others and desire to create and foster relationships throughout the High Country, she is eager to connect and share valuable public health programs throughout the service area.

Starting this position marks a career transition from higher education to healthcare for Smith. She recently retired from Appalachian State University where she worked in Admissions, the Walker College of Business, and the Career Development Center. Educational program planning is a significant part of her professional experience and background.

Smith is married and has three children with her husband, Chad. She and her family have been involved in healthcare journeys and realize the importance of quality care and patient experience. “We have all had positive experiences at Watauga Medical Center and with various ARMA providers," says Smith. "I feel fortunate to have the opportunity to represent the UNC Health Appalachian system. I look forward to collaborating with internal teammates and interacting with all community members, from children to senior citizens. We are never too young or old to learn how to be healthier and stronger."
