Land of Sky Regional Council presented he tenth annual Trailblazer Award posthumously to Jodi Brazil at the May Board of Delegates meeting. The award was presented by Dr. Cheryl Conway, Vice-Chair of the Madison County Board of Health. The award is given annually to a professional in Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, or Transylvania Counties who is a pioneer and innovator in the field of aging and adult services.

Jodi began her career as a nurse, earning her degree from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro and serving children and families with compassion and skill. But her impact extended far beyond clinical care. Through her work with the Madison County Health Department and as Coordinator of the Madison Community Health Consortium, Jodi became a true force for community connection and change.

She believed deeply that the best way to serve a community was to bring people together. She worked tirelessly to ensure that organizations were not working in silos, but instead collaborating—sharing resources, ideas, and compassion—to provide the very best care for those who needed it most.

One of Jodi’s greatest passions was addressing food insecurity. She understood that access to food is foundational to health, dignity, and opportunity. Because of her advocacy and leadership, her impact can be seen across this community—in the many food pantries and services she helped support, strengthen, and grow.

Her legacy will continue in tangible, lasting ways. The health department’s food pantry will be named in her honor, and through Lord’s Harvest, a community garden is being created—both powerful reflections of her commitment to ensuring that no one goes without.

Jodi will be remembered for her deep love for people of all ages and her unwavering desire to ensure that no one in need of assistance ever went hungry.Jodi didn’t just talk about change—she made it happen. She built bridges. She lifted others up. And she leaves behind a stronger, more connected, and more compassionate community because of her work.
