The event offered race fans, families and community members a chance to meet Jones, see the No. 43 AdventHealth Toyota Camry XSE show car and connect with members of the Legacy Motor Club pit crew. It also highlighted the shared commitment of AdventHealth and Jones to help children build strong reading skills and a love of learning. The event included AdventHealth’s presentation of $5,000 to support Henderson County Education Foundation literacy programs across the county.
“Henderson County is a community that shows up for one another, and that is exactly what this event represented,” said DeLaina Lewkowicz, Director of Community Advocacy for AdventHealth Hendersonville. “We are grateful for the opportunity to support the Henderson County Education Foundation and the many literacy initiatives that help students grow, learn and succeed.”
Jones said the event was meaningful because it connected his passion for community with a cause that reaches children and families in a direct way.
“Literacy opens doors, and it is rewarding to see a community come together around something that has such a lasting impact,” Jones said. “It was special to be part of an event that brought people together and helped support programs that encourage reading and learning.”
The Henderson County Education Foundation supports literacy in a variety of ways throughout Henderson County Public Schools. Its efforts have included partnering with the Flat Rock Playhouse to bring Letterland Alive to elementary schools, funding literacy intervention kits and classroom libraries, providing sets of books for novel studies and supporting book vending machines that help encourage reading. The foundation has also sponsored summer reading programs, funded teacher mini-grants for creative literacy projects and supported professional learning opportunities such as Orton-Gillingham training for staff working to better support students with reading difficulties.
“Henderson County Education Foundation exists to help strengthen opportunities for students, and literacy remains one of the most important ways we can do that,” said Peggy Marshall, Executive Director of the Henderson County Education Foundation. “Support from AdventHealth helps expand that work and makes a meaningful difference for students and teachers across our schools.”
