It has been announced that Costco has withdrawn its application to bring a large store to Buncombe County.
According to a letter posted by WLOS-TV from BL Companies' Nettie
Boyle, who is listed as Project Manager, Costco withdrew the request
"from the current review process before the Planning & Zoning Commission and City Council." The letter was dated Feb. 17.
The store was supposed to be located at 264 & 274 Enka Heritage Parkway. The proposed Costco was expected to be a 160,940 square foot building with 839 parking spaces and the area of development was expected to be 25.09 acres. The plan had included a fuel center
with 32 pumps.
Costco is, according to its website, "a membership warehouse club, dedicated to
bringing our members the best possible prices on quality brand-name
merchandise. With hundreds of locations worldwide, Costco provides a
wide selection of merchandise, plus the convenience of specialty
departments and exclusive member services, all designed to make your
shopping experience a pleasurable one."
The letters went on to say: "Since submitting the application, additional requirements from reviewing agencies related to both on-site and off-site improvements have increased the project’s overall scope, timeline, and anticipated costs. As a result, the applicant has elected to withdraw the current submittal from the review process at this time."
