“Our goal is to amplify the voices and talents of women shaping Western North Carolina’s built environment,” said Maria Zimmer, co-chair. “We want every woman in this field to know she has a strong community behind her.”

The Council focuses on mentorship, professional development, and networking opportunities that help women build stronger careers and businesses. Through programs and events, PWB fosters leadership pathways, highlights role models, and provides tools for professional growth.

Quarterly meetings bring members together for networking and educational programs, while special events such as panel discussions, site tours, and community service projects offer additional opportunities for connection. Members also benefit from ties to the National Association of Home Builders’ PWB Council, gaining access to state and national resources.

What sets this group apart is its industry-specific focus. While many organizations in Western North Carolina support women in business broadly, PWB is dedicated solely to women working in construction, design, and housing. This specialization allows the group to address the unique challenges women face in the building trades and to celebrate their achievements in shaping communities.
