As a behavioral health nurse, Miller demonstrates uncommon compassion every day. She consistently goes above and beyond to provide exceptional care and hope to her patients who are going through difficult seasons in life. Her comforting presence calms each patient and lets them know that she is committed to understanding their unique and individual needs. She walks with them on their journey, and ensures they each feel valued, supported and empowered in their process of recovery.
Miller was recently nominated for this award by a patient who shared, “She is one of the most amazing people I have ever met. When I had to come back to the unit after being discharged, the moment I saw her I knew I was going to be okay. She is the person Florence Nightingale had in mind when she imagined nurses who lead with their hearts as well as their minds. I can never thank her enough for being a part of saving my life.”
The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that, they wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.
