After months of recovery following the devastation wrought by Hurricane Helene, New Morning Gallery, one of the nation’s largest and longest-running art and craft galleries, proudly announces its soft reopening on May 14, with an official reopening celebration set for June 20, 2025.
Nestled in the heart of Historic Biltmore Village, New Morning Gallery has been a cornerstone of Asheville’s creative identity since 1972. With a legacy spanning over five decades, the gallery is not only a regional treasure but also a national icon in the American craft movement. Its return marks a profound moment of resilience and renewal for the city’s arts community, particularly in Biltmore Village, as the community continues to take steps forward to rebuilding and recovery.
"For so many, New Morning Gallery has been a place of inspiration, craftsmanship, and connection," said Gallery Director Sarah Marshall. "We’re thrilled to welcome our friends, neighbors, and visitors back through our doors to experience the beauty and soul of American handmade art once again."
The gallery’s 12,500 square-foot space—known for its inviting, home-like atmosphere—features the work of over 500 American artisans, including ceramics, glass, wood, textiles, furniture, jewelry, and mixed media. From master craftspeople to emerging voices, the collection reflects a diverse and vibrant tapestry of talent, vision, and tradition.
New Morning Gallery is widely credited with helping to ignite Asheville’s original “arts district” in Biltmore Village, laying the groundwork for the city’s now-thriving reputation as a national arts destination. Its restoration signals not just the recovery of a beloved institution, but also a recommitment to the city’s cultural soul.
The June 20 reopening event will feature local music, refreshments, special exhibitions, and welcome four local artists: Joy Moser, painter; Sue Hintz, potter; Randy Hintz, woodworker; and Sarah Garrard, glass artist.
“We’re not just reopening a gallery—we’re reigniting a spirit,” said Marshall. “This is a celebration of art, of Asheville, and of the incredible community that has stood with us through it all.”
