AdventHealth Hendersonville announced Alexis Taylor, ADN as the winner of the DAISY Award for the uncommon compassion she showed to a patient that came into the emergency department in excruciating pain.
The patient, who nominated Alexis for this award, said, “I am so very thankful to have met Alexis tonight. She made a very painful and anxious experience calm and manageable. She made me feel like I was not crazy and that I was validated finally. We need a lot more like her. I hope she gets this nomination and knows what a huge impact she had on me and my journey in this painful process. I will never forget her.”
The DAISY Award was created by the family of J. Patrick Barnes in 1999 to thank the nurses who cared for Patrick and for them as he battled an autoimmune disease. Patrick lost his battle, but his family realized the impact his nurses had on the final days of his life. For that, they wanted to create an opportunity for all families who experience the benefits of the extraordinary care of nurses to show their appreciation.
