ASHEVILLE – The behavioral health team at Mission Hospital completed a successful opening of the new Sweeten Creek Mental Health and Wellness Center in early November. This $65 million, 82,000 square foot facility will care for patients aged four through geriatric and offer 38 additional beds.

“We are so excited to be in our new space. This healing environment will offer the best place for our team and our patients to be successful in their wellness journey,” said Melina Arrowood, Chief Operating Officer of Behavioral Health at Mission Hospital.

Located on 25 acres off Sweeten Creek Road, SCMHWC offers 120 beds and separate units for each age group, with additional outdoor space specifically designed for pediatric, adult or geriatric patients. These outdoor courtyards provide play equipment in the pediatric outdoor space, a basketball court in the adult space, and a walking trail in the geriatric space. There is also a horticultural area and an indoor basketball court.

In fulfilling another commitment HCA Healthcare made to the community, this new facility will offer cognitive behavioral therapy, educational group therapy, music and art therapy, pet therapy, medication management, mindfulness, assertiveness skills, safety planning, relaxation therapy, and patient and family education. SCMHWC also has an on-site pharmacy and cafeteria.

This campus of Mission Health is designed specifically to care for those needing acute inpatient behavioral health care, or outpatient programs such as our Intensive Outpatient Program or Partial Hospitalization Program. For an assessment, call 828-213-4696 or visit the Mission Hospital emergency room.
