The Hendersonville Police Department warns local businesses to be aware of a potential scam.
The HPD has been made aware of a scam circulating in the area that is targeting local businesses. The scam calls have typically been occurring during the evening time around closing. Usually, a scammer has called a business and tried to convince an employee that the owner or law enforcement is requiring tax payment money. The scammer will direct the employee to deliver money to CVS, Walgreens, or to other store to purchase gift cards.
Important things to note:
- Law Enforcement will NEVER call you and ask for money or threaten you with arrest if you don’t pay a fine.
- If you receive a suspicious call, HPD encourages you to hang up. You can always contact your local tax office directly if there is a question regarding a tax bill.
- NEVER provide any personal information, payments, gift cards, etc.
Please contact your local law enforcement if you have been a victim of a scam or if you have any questions. Hendersonville Police Department's non-emergency number is 828-697-3025.
