French Broad River Tour announced

The Land of Sky Regional Council announced it has created a tour in celebration of one of the oldest rivers in the world. This tour will share the economic, cultural, environmental, and other impacts of the French Broad River on our region.

Tour Schedule:

Friday, September 8 - Transylvania County: stops at SylvanSport (outdoor recreation), downtown Brevard (masterplan, infrastructure updates), Headwaters Outfitters (learn about fly fishing/lunch, fish & mussel introductions), Rosman (French Broad River Paddle Trail)

Friday, September 15 - Henderson County: stops at Town of Mills River (Mills River Partnership, streambank stabilization, etc.), City of Hendersonville WTP (drinking water/supply), Flavor First (importance of agriculture), Sierra Nevada (lunch/tour – craft brewing & water quality)   

Friday, September 22 - Buncombe County: stops at Duke Energy Skyland generation plant/Lake Julian, NC Arboretum (forestry & water quality), New Belgium (lunch/outdoor tour), River Arts District (riverfront economic development), Woodfin Blueway/Greenway (outdoor recreation/greenways)

Friday, October 6 - Madison County: stops at Town of Marshall (walking tour), Hot Springs (infrastructure, Appalachian Trail, outdoor recreation), Blue Heron Whitewater (lunch & 3 hour float trip)

You must register for each county tour separately at the links provided below. You can sign up for one, two, three or all four. There is no cost to participate.  

Friday, September 8 - Transylvania County Tour

Friday, September 15 – Henderson County Tour

Friday, September 22 – Buncombe County Tour

Friday, October 6 – Madison County Tour (rafting trip on the river included for the final tour stop)
