WNC Career Expo opens Thursday with newly extended hours
Mar 22, 2023 10:31AM ● By WNC BusinessFLETCHER – With more than 120 employers in growing industries registered to participate, job seekers are encouraged to attend the WNC Career Expo, which will take place Thursday, March 23, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM at the WNC Agricultural Center's Davis Event Center located at 765 Boylston Highway in Fletcher. The WNC Career Expo is free to attend for all job seekers, and no registration is required.
“More than 120 employers from across our region are registered to attend the WNC Career Expo and most are hiring to fill roles paying $19 or more,” said Nathan Ramsey, director of Mountain Area Workforce Development Board. “Whether you’re planning a return to work or are ready to take the next step on your career pathway, the WNC Career Expo will help you get there.”
Job seekers can view a list of participating employers here. Many participating employers plan to interview candidates for available roles on site, and several employers in industries like advanced manufacturing, construction, and hospitality can hire on the spot. Most participating employers say they are hiring to fill at least one job paying $19 per hour or more.
The event will also include opportunities for people experiencing significant barriers to employment. Most participating employers say they are willing to hire candidates who are returning to the community from incarceration, and Inclusive Hiring Partners, an effort to close the opportunity gap in Buncombe County by connecting people experiencing barriers to employment with rewarding local careers, will be on site to connect with job seekers interested in learning more about the initiative.
The event will include free resources for job seekers like resumé reviews and interview preparation support with experts from NCWorks Career Centers, free onsite printing for job seekers interested in distributing their resumés to employers, and information on how to conduct a local child care search or apply for a child care subsidy. No appointments or registrations are required to access these resources.
The WNC Career Expo is presented by the Asheville Area Chamber of Commerce and Mountain Area Workforce Development Board with additional support from A-B Technical Community College, Asheville Radio Group, Bojangles of WNC, iHeart Media, Asheville Radio Group, Advanced Business Equipment, and FASTSIGNS of Asheville.
