“Goddess Gathering” Art Wear Shop-a-roo!

Whimsical wearables and whatnots will be happy-ning at heART Space Studio during ArtWear Shop-a-roo, featuring “OOAK Goddess Rags” jackets and vests by Janice Schmidt. With a passion to create “ZERO waste” wearable art creations, Janice has total respect for the process of creating textiles and a reverence for the hands that have touched them. Her wearable art creations give textiles the longevity they deserve.

Suzanne has spent the last 30+ years as a creative entrepreneur, designing and selling her own ColorFULL Art & Artwear, while styling the creative Souls who love it.  As an “Art Evangelist,” one of her greatest joys is connecting her clients with artists’ works other than her own–that she knows her clients will absolutely love!

Suzanne’s heART Space studio is playground for spirited souls to connect, enjoy and explore their own creative expression by taking a Soul Art Journey Workshop.  | RiverArtsDistrict.com/Artist/Suzanne-Armstrong

The Magnetic Theatre presents “Fish”

How much of a life can one truly control?  What events might one think of as destiny, and what as a product of choice, for better or for worse?  When things go drastically wrong, how does one carry on, accept, forgive, and move on?  Or can they?

“Fish” explores these questions through the stories of Laura (played by Paula O’Brien) and Charlie (Jason Phillips), characters with eventful pasts and heavy baggage.  Laura is seeking balance, while Charlie is simply getting by any way he can, but both remain haunted by their histories and the people who’ve defined them.  When the two connect unexpectedly in a lonely bar, they wind up playing a dangerous game.  Who will survive, and how can they forgive themselves in the process? Shifting timelines and unearthing skeletons, “Fish” is a fever dream twisting through memory, fantasy and the present.

Written by Cyndi Williams and directed by Ashleigh Goff, with Evan Eckstrom, Morgan Miller, and Lilly Mills rounding out the cast.

The show opens April 14th and runs through April 29th, with performances at 7:30 pm Thursdays through Saturdays and at 4:00 pm on Sundays.  “Fish” contains adult themes; discretion is advised.

Ukrainian Pysanky Egg Workshops

Spring Ukrainian Pysanky Workshop Schedule announced! Pysanky are a lot like Asheville–unique, fun and colorful!

In this workshop we will be making beautiful Ukrainian Easter eggs – pysanky. You will learn the method of batik – also called wax-resist – dying. You will also be familiarized with the wide range of Ukrainian folk art traditional patterns, designs and symbols and their history. The designs are made with beeswax which is melted in the flame of a candle and applied to the egg using a tool called a kistka. The eggs are dipped into successively darker dyes. At the end of the process the beeswax is melted off to reveal the beautiful and colorful design. You may use the traditional patterns, or also freestyle and make up your own design. Pysanky are fun, relaxing, and meditative to create. And, the symbols are all good wishes, so it is always the perfect time to create eggs with symbols wishing for good health, long life, strength and protection and other good things.  |  AshevilleStudioA.com/Workshops
