ASHEVILLE  - Artists and brands in need of rentable photo studio space by the day or by the hour now have a resource available. Mixing industrial bones with eclectic details, Prism Studio Space is a white-box daylight studio designed to provide a functional yet unique venue for photoshoots, workshops, pop-ups, and client meetings.

Located in the vibrant Hatch Innovation Hub building on the edge of downtown Asheville, the 600 square foot venue features 13’ ceilings, concrete floors, and a floor-to-ceiling window to bring in ample natural light.

Founded by wardrobe stylist Ellen Pieper and photographer Mallory Zynda, the studio is available to rent on its own or with photography, art direction, and styling services offered by the in-house creative team.

Pieper moved to Asheville in 2016 with her husband Eric, and together they founded Homestead - a design and branding agency. With a 15-year career as a photoshoot producer and stylist in cities like Boston and Los Angeles, Pieper saw the need for a clean, bright and affordable location for local photographers and business owners to shoot portraits, product, and editorial content.

“After Eric and I moved here,” says Pieper, “Homestead was hired to Art Direct and produce photoshoots for local businesses, and we couldn’t find the right kind of space. A lot of local photographers have their own unique studios, but when it came to white-box, blank-slate spaces specifically geared toward hourly or daily rentals, we kept coming up short.”

Pieper decided to open a studio of her own, with local businesses in mind.

Prism Studio Space is designed to be a location where photographers and brands who don’t have their own in-house studio can produce full-scale shoots. Affordability is also key to the founders, who know how important photography is to many businesses.

“I want Asheville’s small, growing businesses to have access to the same resources larger brands have access to.” Pieper said. “So many people I know are shooting in their living rooms or the corner of their spare room because they don’t have the budget to rent a studio of their own long-term. Sometimes, however, they need more space. As a local photographer, Mallory faced the same issue, and we wanted to build a solution."

Prism is here for the days you don’t want to set up a shoot with your kids under foot or have
clients in your kitchen. Whether it’s a quick headshot session or a full season of product, shot over multiple days, we’re here for you.”
