Kathy Snyder announces retirement

After 50 years of working as a Physical Therapy Assistant at Watauga Medical Center, Kathy Snyder is officially retiring. Though she was supposed to retire in December, her position couldn’t be filled in time, and she said she couldn’t do that to her team. That's just who she is.

“Kathy, from the very first day I ever met her, showed love and compassion for her patients, respect to all her co-workers, dedication to her job, commitment to do things right, and performed whatever task was asked of her without complaint. Most of all, after almost 50 years of coming to work at WMC, she still shows up to work with a beautiful smile on her face and a kind word for everyone. It's been an honor to work along beside her and learn from her. She will be missed,” says Emily Roberts, Director of Rehabilitation.

Although Kathy has many memories of the past five decades, the one she cherishes the most is the opportunity she had to work with her sister, Sue, also a PTA, for 24 years. “We made the perfect team,” she said.

She says what she’ll miss most about her job is the people. “My colleagues and dear friends. Meeting new patients. I simply can’t describe it – the opportunity to work with these amazing people has been such a blessing. This job has brought me so much joy - every day was a great day.”

Her colleagues and work family are sad to see her leave but grateful for having worked with her.
“We will miss her terribly. Kathy has an amazing work ethic and is willing to do anything that is asked of her. Although we will miss her, I am happy that she is getting to retire, and I wish her all the best,” said Debbie Berry, Inpatient Physical Therapy Manager.

Kathy looks forward to spending time with her family and two granddaughters. She plans to vacation often – even traveling to Pigeon Forge with her mom, who is 91, later this year.
Congratulations on your much deserved retirement, Kathy and thank you for your many years of dedication and commitment to our patients and healthcare system.
